Curriculum and Affiliation

Designing School Curriculum requires a conceptual foresight and imagination. Exhaustive evaluation and improvements are made year after year to keep the curriculum dynamic and updated. While selecting textbooks, we generally keep in mind the student learning outcomes given in the National Curriculum 2006. Our school is affiliated with the respective Board of intermediate and Secondary Education. The curriculum for different classes is discussed below.

Nursery and Prep

The first educational step that a child takes at an impressionable age of four is in Nursery and then on to Prep. Bearing in mind that the foundation of a child personality is laid and two third of his/her intellect is formed at this age, we have created an environment and system of teaching which is entirely child friendly, safe and healthy. The students of these classes are housed in a separate block with their own work area, play-area and well equipped activity room. Recognition, reading and writing of Urdu and English alphabet and small words are introduced in these classes. Basic arithmetic concepts are also introduced here.

Class I to V

The basic concepts that a child was taught strengthen and take a more firm footing from class I to V. The syllabus becomes broader and young student is taught subjects like Urdu, English, Mathematics, General science and Social Studies besides teaching of Islamiyat & Naazra Quran. Student participation is encouraged by interactive teaching methods.

Class VI to VIII

The Curriculum, for Classes VI to VIII is designed to develop the all round personality of students. It includes academics as well as a variety of co-curricular activities. The academic subjects include Urdu, English, Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology,) Social Studies Computer Education, Islamiyat and Naazra Quran.

Class XI to X

Our School is affiliated with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore and Gujranwala. The Curriculum prescribed by the Board is followed completely. We generally offer Science Group with Biology or Computer Science as an elective subject. However, choice of Humanities Group is also available.

Teaching Faculty

The Teaching Faculty comprises professionally qualified, experienced and devoted teachers. Majority of the teacher posses a Master’s degree in their respective disciplines. Professional training experience in teaching, mental alertness, self-confidence, commitment, general bearing and traits of balanced personality are given while recruiting the staff. Even for nursery classes the same criterion is observed.

Staff Development Centre

Professional development plays a very significant role in the effective staff development that focuses on the knowledge, skills and the attitudes required for teachers, administrators and other school employees. It is very important as it helps to improve the performance of students at all levels. The Punjab School has its own training center for professional development of the teachers. Service training workshops are arranged throughout the year. These workshops are conducted not only by the professional trainers from different reputed institution but also by the teachers of the Punjab School.

Computer Education

Computer Education is a compulsory subject for all the classes up to 8th grade. Elaborate and adequate arrangements have been made for its teaching. Our school continually upgrade and enhance their state- of-the- art computing facilities.

Islamic Education

The curriculum includes: Tajveed-ul- Quran, knowledge of fundamentals of Islam, learning of Namaz with translation, Hifz of selected Surahs and Ayaat from the Holy Quran, inculcation of social virtues, study of life of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) and that of early caliphs and heroes of Islam. The school utilizes the services of qualified and dedicated teachers for Islamic education. The facility for offering ‘Zuhr’ prayer is also ensured. Specific places have been reserved and maintained for this purpose.

Hifz e Quran Programme

The School launched Hifz e Quran programme for boys in 2004. This is an optional programme offered presently in Township Campus only. The students after passing class IV can opt this stream. Preference is given to those students who secure at least 75% marks in annual examination of class IV with at least 90% marks in Quran as a subject. The duration of this programme is 3 years. After the completion of the Hifz, the students join the regular stream in class VII.
So far 287 students have completed the Hifz, and presently 71 students are passing through the Hifz process.

Homework

We believe that homework is an extension of the school activity and a crucial part of children’s education. This helps them to:

  • Develop independent study skills
  • Acquire disciplined work attitudes and to meet deadlines
  • Practice skills learnt at school
  • Make rapid individual progress, whenever appropriate
  • Prepare for future lessons
  • Show that they have understood the lesson
Students Diary

Students’ diary is a ready and convenient source for parents to interact with the teachers about the Academic activities of their child. Students / teachers are supposed to record all that is taught in the classes each day along with the homework given to reinforce classroom learning. The record of student’s performance in class test is also maintained in the diaries which are supposed to be signed by the parents regularly.

School Publications

The school prepares and prints, every year, its own workbooks/worksheets for different classes to bridge gaps within the curriculum for better utilization of academic learning time. These workbooks and student diaries are provided to students at the start of each academic session. Our school also publishes its magazine “The Futurist” every year and newsletters that reflect the literacy skills of the faculty and the students.
